We often mourn the end of summer, as the weather cools, days become shorter and evenings darker. But we shouldn't dwell for too long, as autumn brings plenty to be excited about: seasonal home-grown produce like squash and pumpkin, affordable ‘shoulder season’ holidays and a slew of exciting cinema releases pre-awards season, to name just a few of the seasonal delights that the House & Garden team always look forward to. The months before Christmas are also a brilliant time to shop beautiful pieces to refresh your home, as our go-to high street homeware shops release their new season collections. From a sumptuous patterned rug, to an affordable sculptural lamp and cosy patchwork accessories, we've selected the statement pieces that will effortlessly update your home.
Soho Home
Soho Home's latest collection is awash with pared-back elegance and casual cool, featuring handcrafted furniture, artistic table lamps and lovely throws. Each of their pieces is designed to slot into your everyday life whilst bringing that members' club atmosphere to your home. Our favourites include the Francesco Table Lamp, a pretty, Murano inspired piece, and the Madelyn Sofa.
Zara Home
The offering from Zara Home has continued to go from strength to strength in recent years, from exciting capsule collections with collaborators such as Collagerie, to larger investment pieces and affordable kitchenware. Their new collection is characteristically stylish and minimal, prioritising natural wool and linen in soft furnishings, with wibbly wobbly accessories alongside more utilitarian pieces, such as the simple floor lamp we've showcased below.
H&M Home
The autumnal collection from the ever-reliable and affordable H&M Home is packed with lush berry tones and deep oranges, and is particularly strong in its accessory offering, from sleek candlesticks to flamboyant vases. This simple, sturdy wooden coffee table is one of the larger pieces in the collection, and at £150, it's a total bargain.
Oka
OKA is a long-standing House & Garden go-to for directional and stylish homewares that have the ability to add much more to a room than you might first expect. Their autumn collection is particularly good, with clever pieces like the Ada Console Mirror, that provides a storage solution for tight hallways without taking up floorspace, and the contemporary yet classic, Piraamid Table Lamp.
Toast
Toast's mission is to create beautiful items that are designed to last a lifetime. Whether it's clothing range, or homewares and accessories, Toast is a firm favourite and a staple in our shopping diet. Their autumn collection is a fantastically well curated selection of tableware, kitchen accessories and ceramics.
Oliver Bonas
So much of Oliver Bonas's latest collection is instantly desirable, which makes sense when you know it was designed in collaboration with British fashion label Shrimps. From the charming stainless steel egg cup, which would make a lovely addition to any morning table, to the smart striped tumblers, which look just as good housing a glass of fresh orange juice as they do filled with a cocktail, we'll be watching this collection closely.
John Lewis
One of our favourite all-rounders for furniture and home accessories, John Lewis offers consistently reliable quality, and furnishings in a wide range of styles from the traditional to the ultra-modern. As well as many different brands, they also stock their own brand items, which we have highlighted here. We love the subtle Art Deco shape of their Farmhouse Mirror, and the classic Bauhaus look of the chrome Curve dining chair.
