It's that time of the month again, when Omaze reveal their latest grand prize draw. Get set for September as the prize heads from Cornwall to the north of England with the Omaze Yorkshire house draw. Omaze has just released details of this impressive country pile, and it is every bit the welcoming family home in the country. The house is located in the district of Ryedale, which sits between York city and the coast. Picturesque in every way, the area is part of the North York Moors National Park, and is populated by bucolic rolling hills, thatched cottages and windmills. Also in this most delightful of settings is the famous stately home, Castle Howard. From the nearby train station, Malton, there are several trains to London with just one change at York. The journey takes just over two and a half hours: do-able for guests visiting from the city or even a commute.
The house – like many of its neighbours – is built in a local, light coloured sandstone often referred to as Yorkstone. Perfectly symmetrical, it is surrounded by rolling hills and abundant greenery. The hallway leads you to a study, sitting room, dining room, snug and kitchen, off of which is a pantry, utility room and boot room. The upper two floors are home to six bedrooms and as many bathrooms, and self contained loft apartment – perfect for guests or rentals. Outside, the large garden plays host to stables a terrace and a swimming pool surrounded by wildflowers.
The decoration throughout is elegant: think neutral walls, large stone slabs on the floor, layers of pretty fabrics and an abundance of architectural details such as panelling, cornicing and fireplaces. The team have masterfully combined texture and light colour to make spaces which feel at once considered but serene; take the reeded wallcovering in the sitting room, which adds a sense of life and beautifully complements the sisal rug on the floor. Each of the light-filled rooms comes equipped with all of the mod-cons which make for a comfortable home – we're particularly fond of the kitchen, which combines a traditional AGA range cooker with a built-in induction hob on the island.
Outside, a large garden and beautifully maintained terrace offer seemingly endless opportunities for al-fresco cooking and dining, and lazy summer afternoons spent lounging next to the pool. Equestrians will delight at the stables, which are impressively stylish and can house several horses.
As with every Omaze million pound house draw, the house comes fully furnished, mortgage free and there's no stamp duty to pay. What's more, a cash prize of £250,000 will be given to the lucky winner. There's no reason not to enter, given that entries cost just £10 – with bundle discounts for multiple entries – and all the proceeds for this prize draw will go to the Mencap. For one lucky winner, the house represents an opportunity of a lifetime.
