It might not surprise you to learn that the first room Skye McAlpine fell in love with in her Venetian palazzo was the kitchen. Filled with freestanding furniture painted in a delicate pale blue, the kitchen has a ‘distinctly Italian charm’ about it. The marble topped table doubles up as a kitchen island–an ideal spot for preparing the food she is so revered for.

This kitchen differs from her London one in a few ways, explains Skye. There, the 'kitchen works in a way that totally suits me, it's all set up to host for friends and it's convenient and comfortable.' In Venice, however, the kitchen is at the other end of the house to the dining room. 'I feel like a yo-yo when I'm entertaining. In London the house works round us, whereas here, we work round the flat,' says Skye.
To help those looking to recreate the charm of her Venetian kitchen, we asked the food writer and tableware designer to open up her sourcebook and share all the details with us.
Displayed in the beautiful dresser, Skye's ceramic collection is given pride of place. A few pieces are from her own brand, Tavola, which launched last year.
The kitchen sides are covered with colourful cookbooks and stacks of plates ready to be used. Above, a light is hinged to provide perfect lighting no matter the time of day.
Ceramic apothecary jars made in nearby Bassano del Grappa are used for storing coffee, flour, and other ingredients.
just In the breakfast room, Skye lays out a spread of wonderful tableware atop a gingham tablecloth. The table is set with Tavola plates, saucers and napkins.
In Skye's living room, traditional furniture is balanced by a number of more contemporary pieces. The cushions are Tapisserie, embroidered by Skye's mother.
