The best hotels in Marrakech right now
.jpg)
When tourists think of Marrakech, quintessential images of dazzling souks, colourful leather babouches and richly spiced tagines may spring to mind. More recently, however, a flurry of new openings have also added a contemporary creative dynamic to the ancient city; chic boutiques shops, such as Moro and Al Nour Textiles, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Al Maaden have all opened over the last few years. The city’s hotel scene has had a design-focused makeover to suit, with old-glamour palatial hotels undergoing extensive renovation projects and boutique riads opening up in the ancient Medina. Here are some of our favourite spots to book in Marrakech.
What’s the best part of Marrakech to stay in?
Most visitors to Marrakech will spend a large part of their time in the city’s ancient Medina - and rightly so. Stocked full iconic landmarks like the Jemma el-Fna Square and the Koutoubia Mosque, alongside authentic street food spots and more blatant tourist traps, the market certainly has a lot to offer. For those ready to dive straight into the action, a myriad of riads are available in the centre of the Medina. If you are looking for a slightly more peaceful option, however, the quieter Medina neighbourhood of Riad Zitoun Jdid or upscale Hivernage district might be better suited. Some more secluded options also lay on the outskirts of the city at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, including the Selman Marrakech and the more recently opened Farasha Farmhouse.

The best hotels in Marrakech
Emily Andrews1/13Maison Brummell Majorelle
Best hotel in Marrakech for impressive interiors.
This spot is all about design; the dusty pink façade is instantly striking, its sculptural form echoing the curves and arches of Moroccan vernacular architecture. Inside, the hotel feels like a contemporary retreat. Curved staircases and crescent windows are softened with tadelakt plaster, terrazzo flooring and bespoke furniture crafted by local artisans. The eight guest rooms open onto leafy courtyards, balconies or private gardens with outdoor baths, each space adorned in muted tones of blush pink stone and brushed brass.
The communal areas are suitably decadent, including a shaded courtyard pool, gardens peppered with cacti, and a marble hammam with a heated plunge pool. Breakfasts of fresh pastries, Moroccan breads and mint tea are served indoors or out, while the living room, with its azure fireplace wall, becomes an atmospheric spot for evening drinks. Tucked beside Marrakech’s Jardin Majorelle and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, Maison Brummell Majorelle conveniently places guests at the heart of the city.

L’Hôtel Marrakech2/13L’Hôtel Marrakech
Best hotel in Marrakech for a quiet stay in the heart of the city.
Hidden within the Bab Doukkala quarter of Marrakech’s Medina, L’Hôtel Marrakech sits amongst a tangle of alleyways. Its position places guests in the heart of the action without being too overwhelming - the hotel is close enough to the souks, Dar El Bacha and the Djemaa el-Fna for easy exploration, yet shielded from the bustle in a quieter, residential enclave.
Originally a nineteenth century riad, the property was recently restored by British designer Jasper Conran. Moroccan craft and European antiques now sit comfortably together - imagine zoua painted ceilings, Syrian mirrors, zellij bathrooms and a brass art deco bar sharing space with voile-draped four poster beds and polished tadelakt walls. Each of the six suites has its own character, from the palatial Casablanca with its hand painted ceiling to the sprawling Agadir suite, which incorporates a courtyard and plunge pool. Meals are taken wherever guests choose, whether that is by the palm shaded pool, on the sun drenched roof terrace, or in the dining room where the house cook serves classic Moroccan dishes.

Caravan Agafay3/13Caravan by Habitas Agafay
Best hotel in Marrakech for exploring the local landscape.
Just 45 minutes from Marrakech, Caravan by Habitas Agafay offers a desert escape for visitors to the city. Set within the rocky expanse of the Agafay Desert, the camp boasts 40 luxury tents. The design is inspired by local Amazigh traditions - imagine sandy hued interiors furnished with handwoven rugs, carved wood, and lanterns sourced from Marrakech’s souks. The communal areas continue this aesthetic: low slung seating dressed in woven fabrics and whicker rugs line the spaces.
Each lodge offers an outside space where visitors can enjoy the landscape and stargaze; the Explorer Tent’s are equipped with a stone patio, while larger suites offer private decks. Sustainability is key to the design, with solar power and natural materials employed to soften the camp’s impact on the landscape. Dining takes place at Olivar, where dishes mix Moroccan and international flavours, often using ingredients from the on site garden. Two swimming pools, a small spa, and daily yoga are also on offer, encouraging guests to truly rest. More active guests can explore the surrounding wilderness by horse, camel, or ebike.

The design of the space is relatively minimalist, with whitewashed eggshell walls, earthy linens, and mahogany furniture taking centre stage. Some more opulent design touches break up the monotony, including traditional tiled bathrooms and bold contemporary artwork. IZZA is also home to the ‘Museum in The Medina’, whereby digital, generative, and AI driven art work is displayed throughout the property. Notable pieces include large scale photographs from Leila Alaoui’s ‘‘Les Marocains’ series and contemporary art by Hassan Hajjaj, Khadija Jayi, and Mouhcine Rahaouian.

A Marrakech stalwart, this kaleidoscopic riad by the winding old medina is a beautiful labyrinth in itself – and just as enticing today as it was when it opened two decades ago. Made up of 13 interconnected buildings, three pools and 41 bedrooms all in their own unique design and bold jewel-toned shades. The rooftop at El Fenn is particularly chic, serving up ravioli stuffed with wild mushrooms from the Atlas Mountains.

Best hotel in Marrakech for design lovers
Occupying a central position within Marrakech’s Medina, Riad No. 37 wraps around a series of inner courtyards, forming the perfect quiet recluse from the chaos of the market outside. Unlike the more opulent hotels in the city, the property adopts a more minimalist and contemporary Scandinavian inspired design; slate grey walls accompany white linens and low-hanging whicker light fixtures. The space has been designed to encourage meaningful interaction with other guests, so communal spaces are in abundance. Two pools occupy the rooftop and ground floor courtyard, whilst food is served family style in the kitchen. A residency programme also regularly hosts local artists and creatives to encourage inspirational encounters.

10/13Rosemary
Best hotel in Marrakech for thoughtful craftsmanship
Located in the sleepy Riad Zitoun Jdid neighbourhood, Rosemary occupies a traditional courtyard house believed to have been designed by Belgian architect Quentin Wilbuax. Whilst some contemporary details remain, the majority of the property’s design can be attributed to co founder, Laurence Leenaert. A Belgian ceramist and textile artist, Laurence personally curated the space over a three year renovation project. Now carved designs curl around stone pillars and hand painted plates line the kitchen walls. Quirky sandstone chairs can be found throughout the property too, with wrought iron daybeds and terrazzo tiles littering the outdoor spaces. Be sure to ask about the experiences on offer - Laurence often hosts ceramics classes and lessons on how to chisel traditional zellije (glazed tiles).

The rooms themselves follow a similar style, featuring botanical Florence Broadhurst wallpaper and opulent velvet furnishings. Guests can even sample a traditional Moroccan breakfast at Riad Botanica’s rooftop; the spread includes msemen pancakes, rich jams, and amlou, a thick paste consisting of roasted almonds mixed with honey and argan oil.

Best hotel in Marrakech for old school glamour
Perhaps Marrakech’s most iconic hotel, La Mamounia once played host to Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill and even Alfred Hitchcock, who filmed The Man Who Knew Too Much at the property. More recent renovations from designer Jacques Garcia have kept the hotel up to date, though old school glamour still reigns supreme; heavy velvet curtains, embroidered headboards and richly patterned tiles decorate the rooms. Traditional touches include vibrant zouac ceilings and ornately carved mashrabiya windows, with the bathrooms even decked out with marble zellige tilework. For a truly traditional experience, guests can also visit the properties onsite hammam, where visitors are vigorously scrubbed and washed by attendants in a communal bathhouse.

The space itself is intimate, with only five bedrooms ensuring that a homely feel is retained in the property. Colourful contemporary art coats the space, with quirky palm tree statues filling the common areas and bold squiggles adorning the walls. Their terracotta coloured rooftop is particularly exceptional; unlike some of the rowdier, larger hotels, Riad Pompom’s pool space is small and intimate.
