Lewes, East Sussex
- When: November 5, 5-11pm
- Where: Lewes, East Sussex
- Website: visitlewes.co.uk/information/lewes-bonfire
Heralded as the ‘bonfire capital of the world’, the town of Lewes in East Sussex welcomes crowds of spectators for its storied November 5th celebrations. However, event organisers are now keen to stress that it is an event for local residents only, as the streets are narrow and flaming torches and firecrackers can be incredibly dangerous when large crowds gather – though it will be live streamed for out-of-towners. The highlight is the processional march through the market town by its six active bonfire societies, each in traditional costume and bearing giant effigies of political figures that are then burned at their separate bonfires located around the town. The identity of the effigies are kept top secret until the event, but past examples include Donald Trump, Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson, alongside Guy Fawkes himself.

A picture-perfect fishing village on Cornwall’s east coast, Polperro is renowned for its stunning coastal firework display. It is a much-loved local tradition and a magiical way to spend an autumn evening if you happen to be in or around Cornwall. It’s free and unticketed so you don’t need to worry if you’ve not planned in advance.

There could be no finer setting for a blazing bonfire and two spectacular firework displays than the gardens of Chatsworth house (if you’re attending with small children, you might like to go for the earlier, gentler display). The event will also include other exciting entertainment, including children’s entertainers, cyr wheel performers, fire jugglers, a giant puppets, and live music from LED drummers and a saxophonist. There’s also the option to book a delicious pre-bonfire dinner, but spaces are very limited, so you might have to plan ahead for 2026!
