Cambo Gardens, in Fife, are renowned for their snowdrops and aconites, which carpet the woodland all the way to the sea in late winter. In early winter, the prairie garden is uncut, with the seed heads giving structure and texture.

At Trentham Gardens, in Staffordshire, the perennials in Tom Stuart-Smith’s Italian Garden are left standing until late winter. If you are lucky enough to see it in frost or light snow, this lovely garden is a stunning spectacle.
