Beautiful Hallway Wallpapers
The hallway is such a small area of the house, so you might as well let rip and go for those design touches you were too afraid to try elsewhere. 'I think of hallways as an opportunity to introduce people to the personality of the house,' explains designer David Bentheim, who has used bold, contrasting wallcoverings to invigorate this entrance. Initially a small, dark and rather uninviting space, 'the client wanted to bring in the light from outside.' This has been achieved using blown-up images of leaves, taken by David, as wallpaper. 'The client then placed these rather wonderful Italian vases in front, which brings the images to life,' he says. Replacing a solid wooden door, with a bespoke glass and metal alternative, complete with decorative transom window, allows light to flow. Designer and architect Ben Pentreath created this scaled-up version of Rocque's 1746 map of London for the staircase of his friend and business partner Bridie Hall. The map starts with Canonbury - the location of the house - at the top. 'Of course, in 1746 this was still a field,' Bridie points out. This small house in Knightsbridge was completely reconfigured by its owner, cartoonist and decorator Sally Ann Lasson, to create a comfortable home with a sense of spaciousness. Trompe l'oeil 'Scenes Siciliennes' wallcovering from Zuber creates visual impact in the hall, while the striking light is from Quindry.
