Leonardo's first Los Angeles house on the celebrity-favourite Oriole Way has quite a star-studded history. Teetering above Los Angeles high up in the Hollywood Hills, the house first belonged to Madonna, from whom Leonardo purchased the pad for $2 million (£1.6 million) in the early 1990s; today, the house is estimated to be worth approximately $7.8 million (£6.3 million). For the past two decades, Leonardo has undertaken extensive renovations on the house, modernising it with high-tech, eco-friendly furnishings and amenities (he also added a regulation-size basketball court). Over the years, Leonardo has taken to renting out the property to friends, including Tobey Maguire, who has lived off-and-on at the Oriole Way house for the past decade.

Tucked into the sand at Carbon Beach (oft-referred to as Billionaire's Beach) off the Pacific Coast Highway is Leonardo's former beach house, which he purchased for $1.8 million (£1.4 million) in 1996 following his great success in the iconic film Titanic. Leonardo carried out a complete renovation of the 1950s bungalow, adding to it two additional bedrooms, a spacious deck complete with hot tub, as well as expanded windows to let in more sea air. In 2016, the actor put the Malibu pad on the market, selling it for a spectacular $10.9 million (£8.8 million) – quite the shark.

Just off the coast of Belize's Ambergris Caye is Leonardo's private island, purchased for $1.75 million (£1.49 million) in 2005 in tandem with his development partner, Paul Scialla. The two men had hoped to transform Blackadore Caye – once an overfished, overforested sandbar – into an exclusive eco-resort; however, their plans seem to have been put on indefinite hiatus, the last report about the island's opening came in 2018.

With incredible views overlooking the Hudson River, 24/7 concierge services, a pool and sauna, bespoke yoga studios and private screening rooms, you too would want to take up residence at Riverhouse, a high-rise tower in Battery Park City. Leonardo purchased two penthouses in the building – his first in 2008, and his second in 2014. Currently, his New York pad is valued at over $30 million (£24.3 million) – quite the real estate boon, considering he purchased his apartments for a combined $10.1 million (£8.1 million).

This mid-century modern house is a true gem in Leonardo's property portfolio. Designed by architect Donald Wexler for the Big Band singer Dinah shore in 1964, the house is a true emblem of the golden age of Hollywood. Since acquiring the house a few years ago, Leonardo has transformed the sprawling Palm Springs house into a bonafide compound, complete with a refurbished sunken bar, redone pool, gym and tennis courts, as well as a separate guesthouse and casita. For those hoping to live like Leo, you're just in luck: the actor has put his Palm Springs pad on the rental market, at the ready for your glitziest Hollywood holiday yet.

In the secluded, star-studded beach neighbourhood of Paradise Cove is one of Leonardo's most recent acquisitions: a small(er) beach bungalow right at the Pacific Ocean's edge. Actors Mark Burnett and Courtney Cox are neighbours and the Duke of Buccleuch's Malibu pad is a mere stone's throw away. The actor purchased the home from billionaire Vinnie Viola for an off-market price; however, there are plans in place for a full tear-down of the beach house set to cost $23 million (£18.6 million).
