Simba Sleep

Hybrid Pro Mattress

Tested by: Arabella Bowes, Commerce Editor

Why we love it: Simba's Hybrid Pro is one of the highest rated mattresses we've ever sent out to our testers. It always comes back with excellent feedback, especially for side sleepers and anyone needing extra pressure relief, and is great value for money. The key here is the fact it incorporates the luxury parts of the more premium Simba mattresses that you'll really notice, and none of the ones you won't even miss.

Pros and Cons
Pros
  • Simba offers a Hybrid Firm Pillow that works alongside this mattress to keep your neck aligned.
  • Having a generous 200 nights to trial this premium mattress at home makes the investment in your back health virtually risk-free.

Mattresses that aren't quite on sale yet…

We know it's early, so we also wanted to draw your attention to the mattresses that aren't quite on sale yet (at the time of writing), but that we'd suggest you do a little bit of research on and mark down for when they most likely go on sale later in the month. Boxing Day is of course when the sales really ramp up, but some of them won't be live until the start of January.

It's one of the most comfortable mattresses we've ever slept on, and on sale. What more could you want?

Is January a good time to buy a mattress?

Now that the Black Friday sales are over, January is definitely the best time of year to buy a mattress at a discount in the coming months. But when we say January, let's soften that up a little. What the “January” sales really refers to is the entire Boxing Day period, with many sales going live now even before Christmas, and throughout the start of the New Year. Some of them will change slightly and evolve (whether that's with further discounts or slightly tightening things up as they go into January), so our best advice would be to shop as soon as you see a good deal on a mattress you want. But if there was ever a time to buy one, the next few weeks is it.

Which mattress brands offer January deals?

January and the entire Boxing Day sales period sees many of our favourite furniture shops and online retailers, like John Lewis & Partners and Amazon, offering up great discounts. Bed in a box brands, such as Emma, Simba Sleep and Dusk, have really taken the mattress industry up a notch or two. While many of them are online only, we've written about them extensively (indeed, some of the team sleep very soundly night after night on their Emma and Dusk mattresses) and most offer a generous sleep trial and free delivery. So if it's not for you, you can sleep soundly knowing you're able to return it and get a full refund.

Lots of the bed in a box brands also do very good bundle bedding deals with their pillows, mattress toppers and duvets too, so do consider these offers too if you're looking for more than one item. They also sell bed frames, so it could be a one stop shop.

How to shop for the best January mattress deals?

Most brands have very wide size offerings, including UK and EU, ranging from small singles and small doubles, up to king size, to super king size and even emperor. While reliable brands such as Silentnight are at the more affordable end of the scale, plenty of mattress brands have luxury and premium mattress offerings too, such as Sealy and Tempur, and we're seeing more and more eco friendly options too, such as bamboo mattresses.

Firmness is also a big consideration too. This is measured on a scale which ranges from medium soft (good for side sleepers) to medium firm (back sleepers, as well as all positions) and firm (stomach sleepers). When it comes to what’s inside, dispel any myths about memory foam making you hot and sweaty. Modern foam is the exact opposite, with effective temperature-regulating qualities. Pocket sprung mattresses are made differently now too, helping to distribute weight evenly.
