It's only been a few months since we were all glued to our TVs each week watching the brilliant third season, but we're already ramping up the excitement for The White Lotus season 4.
Although few details have leaked yet, we do know that the new season will be set in France, marking a second swing back to Europe after a tropical beachfront destination. The first series, which took place in Hawaii, was followed by a second in the baroque surroundings of Sicily, and now it seems that Thailand will be followed by another move back to the old world.
Speculation has been rife about which part of France the series will be set in, but season 3 start Parker Posey has now let slip that it will be in the south of France. ‘Mike [White] is in the South of France now, so that’s where season four’s gonna be. I have no idea if I’m in it.’ Such was Posey's statement on E! Countdown to the Red Carpet. The now legendary writer and showrunner behind The White Lotus, Mike White, had in the past said that he wants to ‘get a little bit out of the crashing waves on rocks vernacular,’ which some took to mean that the new season would not be on the coast, but it seems we were wrong. We can all say goodbye to our dreams of a Parisian White Lotus, or indeed one on the Alpine ski slops (always unlikely, as apparently White hates the cold weather).
The most likely location for the new hotel is said to be Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, which, like the other three hotels in the White Lotus, is a Four Seasons property. Perched on the glamorous Cap-Ferrat peninsula a short hop from both Nice and the Italian border, the hotel features seven hectares of gardens, a 33m sea water pool, a Michelin-starred restaurant and an award-winning spa.
If The White Lotus season four chooses not to go with a Four Seasons hotel, there are other destinations we could imagine being a great fit. We'd recommend the new-ish Maybourne Riviera in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, which comes from the group behind Claridge's and The Connaught in London and is just as glamorous as you'd imagine.
If cast and crew head away from the beach, then a five-star stay amidst the rolling hills and charming villages of Provence could be pretty spectacular. Out here you could not do better than Hotel Crillon le Brave, made up of a cluster of 17th and 18th-century houses in the heart of the Vaucluse – essentially a village all of its own. With warm, intimate rooms designed by Charles Zana, and a spa hidden away in the vaulted former stables, it's a positive sanctuary from the tourist-filled world outside.
Whichever direction White chooses to go, we'll be sure to be glued to our screens for the next installment. And Parker, we hope you're in it.
