How to get the look of Angelica Squire's joyful, colourful living room
In any stylish room, there will be plenty of ideas to plunder and translate to your own space. While it's not possible to copy a room exactly – and nor could you without losing all sense of personality – tips and details on sources and paint colours can go a long way to helping your own decoration. Take Angelica Squire's living room: it's light, airy and full of splashes of colour, and one the most popular living rooms we've featured on Instagram recently. She herself looked to Keith McNally's house for inspiration when looking for a fireplace surround, and she's paying it forward by sharing her own sources, or tips for finding similar pieces.
The fireplace surround was inspired by the pine one in the Balthazar founder's London house and Angelica eventually found hers on 1st Dibs from a salvage company called UK Architectural Heritage. The club fender came from Acres Farm and is covered in a Pierre Frey bouclé fabric, while the painting above is by Alison Harrison. The art makes all the difference in Angelica's house and is a mix of inherited pieces like the three botanical prints – though Petri Prints is an excellent source for these – Portobello Road finds and original artworks like the Ryan Callanan painting above the sofa. The sofa itself was bespoke, but covered in a Romo fabric that is easily attainable and plays off the colours in the botanical prints. Similarly, the second hand Halabala chairs are covered in Veere Grenney's 'Folly' fabric. Anchoring the space is the ottoman, a similar style to which can be found in Arlo & Jacob's 'Archie' design.
As for the background details, the walls have been painted in Paint & Paper Library's 'Stone II' with skirting in 'Topi,' 'to go with the metal doors which were custom made in that beige colour,' details Angelica. 'I wanted something relatively neutral there to lead the eye softly onto the garden beyond - black felt too harsh. If you look very closely the ceiling is actually a very pale blue - I wanted the ceiling to feel sky-like around the large skylight windows. It is Farrow & Ball 'Borrowed Light'.' Against this backdrop, Vaughan lights with Samarkand lampshades illuminate the fireplace, while the antique brass downlighters above the TV are from Holloways of Ludlow. Finally for the flooring, if it's the rush matting that has your heart aflutter, look to edit 58 for similar and get on the waiting list for their own design.
