About

At the heart of Fiona de Lys’ work is a personal story — the confluence of an English-Italian heritage, design, culture, history and a desire to put these into a body of work that celebrates emotion and style through colour in what she terms as an Aesthetic Narrative®.

As a colour consultant and creative director, Fiona brings a multi-disciplined and intuitive approach to her work in understanding and reading colour relative to light, intention, and how a colour combination can best work for a client or product. A life-long journey with colour that began with set design and then evolved into event floristry, renovations, home/editorial and set styling, and eventually the interior paint industry, enables Fiona to ‘read’ light and colour in layers, often resulting in a 3D perception of colour for her.

With an aesthetic that naturally gravitates to an experience beyond the purely visual, provoking thought, Fiona looks to influences outside of her immediate environment to study and observe the use of colour represented as depth in art and in place. She is particularly interested in sculpture, paintings, trompe l’œil and De Stijl. Eastern traditions and the precepts of wabi sabi, kinsugi, and shadow and light, deepen her philosophical approach to aesthetics and atmosphere.

Fiona now works with a palette of over 20 paint brands and continues to expand her understanding of colour. Her house has been featured in House & Garden magazine whereas her work as a stylist and contributor features in numerous other interiors press and brand video productions, alongside creative consultancy for independent designers.
