About
Conscious Landscape is a multidisciplinary landscape design practice based in East Sussex. Founded by William Oldfield and Elliot Aguirre, the company is dedicated to transforming land into ecologically rich, biodiverse, and beautiful spaces.Their ethos is guided by the intelligence of nature, ensuring that each design aligns with the inherent characteristics of the landscape. By integrating principles from regenerative agriculture, agroecology, and naturalistic planting, Conscious Landscape creates bespoke designs that promote ecological balance and resilience. The company's portfolio spans a diverse range of projects, from restoring country homes and gardens to implementing agroforestry and water management solutions on regenerative farms. Each project is tailored to the unique context of the land, fostering a deeper connection between people and nature. Conscious Landscape's approach is not just about aesthetics; it's about cultivating abundance, reviving ecosystems, and enhancing the overall value and resilience of the property for years to come. Their work invites engagement, contemplation, and a collective commitment to nurturing the health of our landscapes. How do you define your signature style?“Our signature style blends ecological function with refined naturalism. We embrace a semi-wild, immersive aesthetic—spaces that feel rooted in place, alive with movement, biodiversity, and seasonal rhythm. Textural planting, sculpted topography, and regenerative interventions work together to create landscapes that are as emotionally resonant as they are ecologically sound. Whether we’re working with a country garden or a large-scale land restoration, our designs honour the existing character of the land while inviting new life to flourish.”What is your design ethos? What values are important to you in your work?"Our ethos is grounded in regeneration, beauty, and stewardship. We believe landscapes should not only look beautiful but function as resilient ecosystems. Every project is a dialogue between human intention and natural intelligence. We prioritise biodiversity, long-term soil health, and water-conscious solutions, always working with—rather than against—the land’s underlying patterns. Collaboration, transparency, and care are central to how we work, and we see each design as an opportunity to cultivate connection—between people, place, and planet."Why do your clients come to you? What do they value about your work?“Clients come to us because they’re seeking something deeper than decoration—they want meaning, longevity, and ecological integrity. Many are drawn to the regenerative approach we take, the way we listen to the land, and how our designs celebrate natural beauty while restoring balance. They value our ability to combine practical land management with emotional resonance—spaces that feel alive, grounded, and future-facing.”How do you stay inspired and keep evolving your ideas?“We stay inspired by spending time in wild places and by paying attention—closely and often—to how landscapes shift through the seasons. Much of our creativity is rooted in observation: the way light moves, how water flows, how species interact. We also draw from emerging ecological research, traditional land practices, and conversations with farmers, growers, and artists. We see design as a living process—and staying open to change is part of our evolution.”
