About

John Ferguson Interiors is a New York–based design studio celebrated for creating spaces that are as thoughtful as they are distinctive. Founded in 2018 by John Ferguson, the firm is defined by a deep appreciation for architecture, craftsmanship, and character—bringing together historical resonance and contemporary sensibility with a quietly vibrant point of view.

After years of experience at an AD100 design firm, John founded his studio to pursue a more personal approach to interiors—spaces that are elegantly composed yet deeply reflective of the people who inhabit them.

The studio’s work spans the U.S. and abroad, specialising in high-end residential projects that balance refinement with individuality. Known for its layered use of colour, expressive textures, and an artful blend of periods and styles, John Ferguson Interiors creates homes that feel both timeless and alive. Each project is approached with sensitivity to place and an intuitive understanding of how beauty and comfort coexist.

The studio’s work has been featured in Cottages & Gardens, Luxe Magazine, Vogue, Country Living, and international editions of leading design publications, affirming its reputation for interiors that are enduring, spirited, and unmistakably personal.

How do you define your signature style?

“My style is defined by a refined yet expressive sensibility - spaces that balance classical structure with modern ease, layered colour, and a quietly vibrant sense of personality.”

What is your design ethos? What values are important to you in your work?

"We're guided by an appreciation for architecture, craftsmanship, and the character that develops when beauty and function meet effortlessly. The studio’s ethos is rooted in creating interiors that feel personal and enduring - spaces with a sense of place, shaped by the lives lived within them rather than by trends.

Every project begins with listening: understanding how a client moves through their home, what they value, and how they want to feel. From there, the process becomes one of refinement - balancing form and comfort, layering materials and colour to achieve quiet richness and depth.

Our core values are: integrity, authenticity, and restraint are central to the work. The studio values collaboration, artistry, and longevity - designing spaces meant to evolve gracefully over time. Each project is approached with curiosity and care, ensuring that every detail contributes to an atmosphere that feels both timeless and distinctly personal."

In your opinion, what makes a design timeless?

“For me, timelessness comes from a balance of classical structure and comfort, from materials that age gracefully, and from details that reveal themselves over time. A room should feel collected rather than decorated, anchored in a sense of place but alive to the people who live there.”

Why do your clients come to you? What do they value about your work?

“Clients come for the studio’s thoughtful approach and ease of collaboration. They value our attention to detail, friendly and communicative nature, and his ability to translate their ideas into spaces that feel personal and beautifully resolved. Every project is built on mutual trust, ensuring the process is as rewarding as the finished result.”

How do you stay inspired and keep evolving your ideas?

"Travel is a constant source of inspiration - the colours of a market in Marrakech, the quiet balance of a Japanese interior, the layered history of an English country house. Experiencing different cultures, architecture, and craftsmanship continually informs how I think about space, texture, and proportion.

I also find inspiration in art, fashion, and nature—anything that reveals a sense of harmony and detail. Each project brings new clients, new stories, and new challenges, which keeps the work evolving."
