After the huge success of the Wicked film over the Christmas period last year, the sequel, entitled Wicked: For Good is one of the most anticipated cinema moments of 2025. While we eagerly prepare to dive headfirst back into the wonderful world of Wicked, the first full trailer and images have been released, helping somewhat to sate our appetite for Ozian content.
Part two of Wicked was filmed concurrently to the first part, and it looks like we can expect more talking animals, grandiose costumes, opulent set design, and plenty of green vs pink sing-a-long action, while expanding the cinematic world of Oz. The trailer, which you can watch below, also teases the appearance of a girl from Kansas in a blue gingham dress, accompanied by her motley crew of travelling companions. Find out everything we know so far about the upcoming musical below.
What is Wicked: For Good about?
Jon M. Chu returns as director for the Wicked sequel, which is set to pick up where the first film concluded, as Elphaba was dramatically ousted from Oz and separated from her former best friend Glinda, beginning a years-long rift. Now living in exile in the forest, having been branded the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba continues on her mission to help the talking animals who have been silenced, and expose the corruption of the Wizard of Oz.
Glinda the Good Witch, on the other hand, is living in luxury at the palace of Emerald City, working for the scheming Madame Morrible to keep up the facade for the people that all is well in Oz. The trauma of her explosive severance from Elphaba looms over her, however, and she longs for reconciliation. Meanwhile, she is preparing to marry the dashing Prince Fiyero, with their wedding set to be a truly lavish spectacle. Drama and jeopardy ensue when the good-natured Glinda tries to make amends between Elphaba and the Wizard, and to complicate matters further, Dorothy and company then arrive at the Emerald City.
Who will star in Wicked: For Good?
New cast members have been announced for the sequel, and include Colman Domingo, who voices the Cowardly Lion. Alisha Weir, a young Irish actress, is rumoured to play Dorothy, who will appear, likely in a limited capacity, in the new film. The principal returning cast are Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Granda as Glinda, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jonathan Bailey as Prince Fiyero. Joining them are Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Elphaba's sister Nessarose, Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James as Glinda’s acolytes Pfannee and ShenShen, and Sharon D. Clarke who voices Elphaba’s childhood nanny, Dulcibear.
