The walls of the handsome drawing room have been treated with a deep orange specialist lacquer paint finish. Upholstered furniture - some bespoke, some antique - is covered in fabrics from George Spencer (banquette), Colefax & Fowler (blue armchair) and Claremont (yellow chair). The painting behind the banquette - Colleges Noir et Rouges 1950 was bought by the client from Thomas Chabolle.Mark Anthony Fox

Overlooking the garden is a small dining area, with a bespoke table and set of Regency dining chairs bought from James McWhirter antiques and recovered with a pleated skirt by VGA. The antique Rise and Fall hanging lamp by Gaetano Scolari for Stilnovo, circa 1960, was purchased in Paris. The pochoirs on the wall are part of a complete folio of Picasso's work printed by Daniel Jacomet in the 1960s.

An often overlooked or under-discussed element in this idea of layering is the important role that texture can play. And it is not just in the way fabrics are use or how rugs are layered on top of carpets. As in all of their projects, Veere and Natasha worked with decorative artists to apply bespoke, specialist paint and lacquer finishes to so many of the walls and surfaces. In the drawing room this gives the effect of depth and movement in the colour; in the dining room it bounces light around the space; the walls in the stairwell and landing have a sort of combed effect. These are all subtle details that don’t scream for attention, yet add interest when noticed.

A bar ‘nook’ has been created on the landing just off the drawing room. Its verre églomisé surface is etched with images of pagodas and pavilions inspired by an antique document. It was designed by VGA and made by Mathew Bray & Matthew Collins.
