Most of my pillows I’ve had for quite a long time, and they’re a little mismatched. Over time, the down has lost its airiness, so the pillows tend to go flat quickly–and far too often need a good punch to fluff them back up again. I always have the ‘good’ ones on my side, so a new pillow to replace one of the oldest ones is a step towards all of my pillows being considered the good ones!

Also, I occasionally get neck and shoulder pain, which I’m attributing to the lumps and bumps of my motley crew of pillows. As a result, I wanted to try a more supportive pillow. I’ve never owned a pillow that wasn’t down-filled, so I opted for a foam one in the hope that it would retain its plumpness while providing a little more neck support.

Emma 'Premium Pillow': is it worth buying?

According to the Emma website, the cooling materials used, supportive quality and ability to personalise the pillow are the key reasons to choose this option.

For me, the most unusual aspect of the pillow is that it is adjustable, It has three different foam layers that are removable, so you can tailor the pillow to what is most comfortable, in terms of height and softness. Plus, one layer is thermo-regulating, one is firmer and one is softer.

The casing is made of a breathable, white, synthetic knitted fabric. There is a zipper on the casing, which allows for easy access to the inner foam layers, and the grey piping around the edge is a smart touch.

The Emma 'Premium Pillow' looked quite modern and high-tech compared to my old pillows. I liked the texture on the casing, and it felt much firmer than what I’m used to.

How much does the Emma ‘Premium Pillow’ cost?

The pillow is currently on Emma’s website for £115.

Delivery

The pillow was packaged in a plastic bag inside a slim cardboard box, nothing too large and cumbersome, but a fabric bag instead of a plastic one, that could be re-used to store or transport the pillow, would have felt a little more premium and sustainability-minded. If you choose to adjust the pillow by taking out one of the foam layers, it would have been useful to have that fabric bag to store the removed layer.

The free delivery and returns policy is much appreciated when splashing out on a pricier pillow. There wasn't really any excess packaging, but the plastic bag felt a little unnecessary.

Although a little on the firm side for me, the Emma 'Premium Pillow' is a sturdy, well-made, customisable option for anyone looking for more support during a night’s sleep.
