Marks & Spencer's wonderful online Christmas shop is very well-stocked, with a wide range of artificial trees and Christmas decorations available at all budgets, from little 1.5ft numbers, to light up twig trees suitable for outdoors. We determined that their Pre-Lit Grand Fir Christmas Tree was a great option that stood out from the rest of the Marks and Spencer Christmas trees on offer. It excelled across a number of criteria, and is particularly suited to take lots of decorations. The final decorated tree can be seen in the photo above, laden with classic red, white and gold tones, making a lovely, traditional centrepiece for any living room. Initial impressions
We were impressed by the high bulb count on this tree, as well as the three light settings, so you can have them twinkling or static according to preference. Upon unboxing, we really liked the more silvery-green hue of the tree, resulting in a smart, muted and natural hue.
Assembly and contents review
This tree was very simple to assemble, with three sections that slot together. Like the pre-lit Grand Spruce Christmas tree from The White Company that we tested, this tree has an easy system where the lights are connected in the pole as you put the sections together. So no connecting or untangling wires which is a relief.
As with all of the trees we tried out, the branches needed arranging and fluffing up to make the tree look its best. This tree had a bit more of a rugged, organic silhouette with some branches sticking out more than others; we felt that this made the tree feel more real.
The lights gave off a nice warm glow and were distributed nicely across the whole tree, and most importantly saves you having to dig out those tangled up Christmas lights from the loft. The metal stand was sturdy, but as mentioned with most of the other trees on our round up, we'd advise investing in a tree skirt to cover up the stand and increase the realism factor. When dressing this tree, we used a lovely tree skirt from another of our go-to shops for quality Christmas homeware, John Lewis.
Our decoration editor, Rémy Mishon, styled the shoot where we decorated all of the trees we tested. She said that this was her favourite to decorate, due to the gaps between branches that allowed the baubles to hand nicely without sitting on branches below. A bushy and full tree looks lovely, but it can make it tricky to find space for all the decorations and have them hang in an attractive way. Furthermore, the top spike of this tree was the sturdiest out of all the trees we tried, which is great news if you have a slightly heavier angel or large star to use as a Christmas tree topper.
The 6ft tree that we tested last year is no longer available, however this tree also comes in 7ft and 8ft heights, ideal if you're looking for a slightly taller tree height or have high ceilings.
Delivery
M&S offer free delivery over £60, so happily that means there's no delivery charge when ordering this tree. Their standard delivery is a speedy 2-4 days, so not a long wait. The tree arrived well-packed in a slim oblong box, with no overly excessive packaging to note.
Marks and Spencer Pre-Lit Grand Fir Christmas Tree verdict
For those who like to go all out with decorating their Christmas tree, this is a very good quality option out of all the Marks and Spencer Christmas trees on sale this year. We felt that the natural, silvery green colour paired really well with traditional decorations in red, gold and white for a traditional, cosy look. We also think that the price tag of £389 is great value for money for a sturdy, pre-lit tree like this.
