Omaze has been known as the 'fairy godmother of the housing world' since its UK launch in 2020. Now, the group is offering the chance to win an idyllic property in unusual, remote and beautiful locations across the UK. Think: chalets, huts, hideaways and luxury cabins. This is like the cherry on the top of the regular monthly house draws, the last of which have included a state-of-the-art lateral property in the Wirral, inspired by the Gold Age of Hollywood, and a glassy Devon house with a pool worth over £2 million.

The first of this new ‘Great Escape’ initiative is exactly what you'd imagine when daydreaming of a low maintenance but super luxurious rural retreat. You can just imagine packing up the car and heading into the magnificent Welsh countryside for a weekend with friends. The modern take on a shepherds hut is located in Powys, an area on the Welsh border known for its natural beauty within easy reach of Hay-on-Wye. The house is worth over £500,000, which is significantly above the average house price in the area. The prize also includes four acres of your own private meadowland.

The house is arranged in three small buildings. Inside, they are all designed in a neutral, stylish way that would make for a very easy life. The lounge features a large, comfortable corner sofa, oak floorboards and a log burning stove for cosy evenings. It's worth noting that the Omaze prize includes all the furniture, so you won't have to worry about the cost of decking out the house. The large windows allow for perfect views over the Powys countryside. You get the feeling that it would be perfect on a sunny day, with the doors flung open and fresh air all around, but just as lovely on a cosy day when the rain is driving outside, curled up with a tea next to the fire. The adjoining dining room has contemporary furniture and panelled walls, and the kitchen is a careful balance of contemporary and countryside, with buttercream walls, dusty green units, exposed wooden shelves and a charming cafe curtain below the sink.

Off the kitchen and living room are two small bedrooms, decorated in a serene and stylish way. The main bedroom dominates the majority of the neighbouring hut, with a pitched roof adding drama to the airy room, with skylights on the ceiling and another log burner in the corner. Another kitchen in this building would allow for easy entertaining, or the potential to rent each section separately. The second building also has a secluded mezzanine study, which Omaze labels the ‘perfect place to rekindle your creative flame.’

Outside, both huts have a large gravel seating area (some under cover, some outside by the meadowland) allows for dining and entertaining outside. Chairs arranged around a fire pit allow for some excellent star gazing, which is popular in the area due to the open, unpolluted skies and dark nights.

The Omaze ‘Great Escape’ property also comes with £50,000 in cash, which Omaze wants to help the winner ‘really escape the everyday and get away from it all.’ You also have the option to sell up and bank the cash, or use it as a rental property. By entering the Wales Great Escape House Draw, you're also supporting the Scouts to help young people get active and develop new skills with friends.
