The Omaze house has been revealed for this month, and as usual it doesn't disappoint. Set high on the Wirral coastline in North West England, the five bedroom house is surrounded by acres of bucolic National Trust woodland. The mid-century-inspired spectacle was based on some of Hollywood's most iconic Golden Age homes. Just like the best California homes designed in the middle of the 20th century, the house is low (built over two floors) and glassy, with views over the coast and forest.
The house is arranged over two, wide floors, one of which has the illusion of floating out into the surrounding forest. The main living area features floor to ceiling, wraparound glass, and is designed with timeless polished concrete floors. The living and dining area has the best views over the coast, as well as a large fireplace and a retro conversation sofa as the centrepiece. The minimalist, open-plan kitchen blends old school glamour and modern amenities, designed in white quartz and ivory oakwood.
Beyond the sitting room, the house steps down into a California-style outdoor living space with a large outdoor dining area all setup for sunset dinner parties (with a view). The back of the house also features a large firepit in Kilkenny limestone, so you can enjoy the outdoor entertaining areas even when the UK's weather isn't quite that of the Hollywood Hills. Remember that the Omaze houses come furnished, so all the perks listed are ready to be enjoyed by the winner, should they choose to move in.
Speaking of which, the Omaze prize is set up so that the winner can either move directly into the property, rent it out, or sell up and keep the earnings. This house is estimated to get about £8,000 a month in rental earnings. Also worth noting is that there are no stamp duty, mortgage or conveyancing fees to pay and the winner also gets £250,000 in cash – which could be used towards maintenance and bills, for example.
Back to the house, the bedrooms all have wonderful vistas over the forest and sea. The main bedroom has triple-aspect views and is designed in a neutral but comfortable way. It also features its own lounge area and a dressing space. The accompanying main bathroom features a timber screen which creates a lovely dappled light over the central eggshell bath. The guest bedrooms are decorated in a natural colour scheme and have their own balconies.
One of the best features of the house is the heated pool, described by Omaze as a ‘neat strip of sparkling aquamarine.' Another big draw is the cinema room with a comfortable bubble sofa in boucle. The study is fit for a Hollywood screenwriter, with chic mid-century furniture and overlooking a skyline of trees.
