A traditional Christmas cake recipe

Every year, when October rolls around and we realise it's time to make the Christmas cake, it seems absurdly early. However, you do need to make it well ahead of the big day to allow the flavours to deepen and come together. From mince pies to how to cook a turkey, Christmas ham, Christmas pudding and turkey crown cooking instructions, not forgetting Christmas biscuits, Christmas cookies and brussel sprouts, there's a lot to consider for Christmas. 'Tis the season to get your priorities straight though, and first in the queue has to be preparing the best traditional Christmas cake. This needs to be made well in advance of Christmas for the best flavour and then repeatedly fed with the Drambuie until you ice it, ideally on Christmas Eve.
